A sample yard Heres a quickly thrown together yard space. the yard lead is just long enough to match the longest yard leg by running right up to the turntable. there is room for a diesel sevice area, a steam roundhouse, and ready tracks. All tracks are color coded for ease of use

    Beginners Layout Question

Beginner trackplans tend to be ovals. "How Small" depends on just what you want to do with it. most of an HO 4x8 can be done in a bit over 2x4 in N. scale, making that the usual 'small' layout.

    Twice-around plans?

This is a door-sized (30x80) plan that has a twivce around and double track (throw the red turnouts to make the switch) wouldn't be hard to extend the siding along the bottom to connect with your other track.

Having trouble with downloading Track Drawing Software

I'bve found that trying to open a .rts file directly gets that error. If thats what you're doing start the RTS program, then open the file from within RTS. Otherwise, re-download it and re-install.

    Expand the Beach Railroad?

Papa Bear: I would expand off the siding, but make the new setup a second layout.. the shared siding would allow you to 'interchange' between the layouts.
