Ok, update time... Not much has been happening recently as I have a short term project to work on. There is a comic-con in my city at the end of the month and I've been asked to display my models in the exhibition hall and also to run a card modelling workshop for a couple of hours.
I think...
Good advice @zathros, you seem to know what you're talking about.
@Revell-Fan also mentioned plywood which is basically what luan is.
I'm going to take both your advice and try doing the main internal structure from luan and then mix foamboard in for stability and to help it keep it's shape...
Printed a test on normal paper at 475% and from tip to tail is about 1.7 metres. Just over studio scale.
I have put a CD on the template to give a size reference.
I'm thinking detachable rear section and mandibles if it's do-able. That would make transporting it a lot easier. I'm seriously considering the idea of fibre optics too as uhu's cockpit at that scale would be about half the original size.
After fiddling with Adobe I can bear to go to 475% which will use 25 sheets per template page. I better take out shares in card. This is going to be interesting. I've never tried anything this big or detailed before.
That's a great help. Thank you.
I may be getting help from a friend on this. He's built a 32 inch kit before and painted and weathered it. He's also a big star wars fan.
@Revell-Fan I have some ideas for strengthening but lamination sounds good. I would love to put lights and an interior in it but I have no idea where to start on that front. I've never tried electronics before. I think for 1/21 scale, I would have to increase the templates by around 480%. Good...
Yeah but that's a heck of a lot of card to be going through...
It still has to be stored somewhere during construction. But yes, it will go to the comic shop. Which is why I was checking scale for the tie fighter. I'm hoping to do the falcon and tie fighter from shunichi and tie interceptor from...
I just checked the print dialogue in Adobe and it looks like 380% will be roughly studio scale. Just over 3 foot for the curve/dome and then about a foot and a half for the mandible. Not forgetting the extra little bit overhanging from the hyperdrive. I make that close to 5 foot.
Each page will...
@Revell-Fan the test was one page on normal paper just to get an idea of the size.
@bigpetr hmmm interesting. I just test printed shunichi's tie fighter at the same scale as the falcon.
Do I want to go bigger???
@Colonial Worrior I love that Star Destroyer. Awesome work.
Welcome, I'm fairly new here myself and I have to say, the guy's here are great.
They're really friendly and helpful.
I've only been able to find the front section stand for Jan's sulaco model so im going to try using them as a template to create the rear stands myself. I think with a large model like that, it would be helpful to have a stand with it.
