    Glowforge or Silhouette Cutter?

The twisty thing between the break off knife and the dental pick is the one unfamiliar to me.

    Glowforge or Silhouette Cutter?

That looks about like my tools. That pallet knife over on the left looks handy. And I'm not sure what the sixth from the left does. I probably have more sewing and beading tools in the mix--knitting needles, needles, embroidery scissors, awl, mini pliers. I just bought a huge sized pallet knife...

    Glowforge or Silhouette Cutter?

Thanks for the pointer on storing the mat. I read the part about manually moving the cutter head but couldn't figure out how to do it. The newer machines don't have the arrows on the control panel. I've been using a small painting/pallet knife to remove parts. I normally use it to spread glue so...

The problem seemed to be lack of light. ;-) a general problem around here this time of year.

    Glowforge or Silhouette Cutter?

I've found that removing the parts from the cut mat takes more time and effort than I expected. And it takes some care that the parts don't get torn. I'm wondering if maybe Silhouette has sticker paper which leaves the back on the stickers. I think the sticker glue might actually work for...

    Glowforge or Silhouette Cutter?

Yahoo! It works. The trick was shining a desk light on the cutting surface. I might put an under cupboard light above it.

    Glowforge or Silhouette Cutter?

I'm in Alaska right now but go back and forth between Colorado and Alaska. I like snow. I often do snow or ice sculpture in the winter. I like the medium almost as much as I like paper. It's white and cheap. Currently I'm struggling with my Cameo. It won't register. There seems to be something...

    Glowforge or Silhouette Cutter?

So far I'm working with downloading software to a computer. It's complicated by have a Mac, a PC, and an Android phone. Here is the new gear as I sledded it from the postoffice. The big box is the Cameo. The other two are audio equipment. Clearing the driveway is also my work. The download is...

The cutter arrived! Now to figure it out.

    Glowforge or Silhouette Cutter?

Wow! I'm in awe. I love the medium of paper. You could probably build all of these in metal but it would be way to much work and cost too much for very little pay off. Building in paper puts the emphasis on the artistry, not on cost or difficulty of working with the material. I see this type of...

    Earth and Moon

I'll start with econocote because I've got an unused roll of it. I've had it for awhile I hope it doesn't go bad. If it looks good then I might try the other products. I'm getting impatient for the arrival of my cutter. The case I ordered for it arrived yesterday, but still no cutter. I spent...

    Earth and Moon

Yeah. That's what I experimented with--rice paper and acrylic medium. I love the tissue paper and balsa look. I should also try Econokot. I've got a role of it.

    Earth and Moon

My sister is saying the same sort of thing about my boats. I've got an entire backlog which I'd like to revamp and publish. I'm going to have to prioritize and also wait for the Cameo. It's still not in. I've been checking the postoffice daily. It's not due until next week.

    Earth and Moon

Cool idea. I've tried rice paper and may do it again. I'm also going to do watercolor paper with the outlines of the continents printed but the continents hand-painted. If the oceans are white the joints will be less obvious. I might even retrace the outlines by hand with a fountain pen. Once I...

I love it. Are you aware of the use of polyhedra in science fiction books by Catherine Asaro. The idea is a game(Dice) which involves arrangement of polyhedra in a way which also acts as prediction and modeling of social systems. I made dice as described in the story but found the cutting became...

    Earth and Moon

The buckyballs are the main feature. In my view. If I'd put the pole axel in correctly the edges of the skin would have align over the stringers, eliminating the accrued intolerance. I like leaving some panels off so that the structure can be seen. I think this is better for showing Fuller's...

    Glowforge or Silhouette Cutter?

I was tempted by some of the foil cardstock but not enough to pay $2.40 per sheet. Instead I'm going to buy or scavenge wrapping paper and laminate it to standard white cardstock.

    Earth and Moon

Still waiting on the Cameo. Here is the Earth with the skin on it. I painted on some acrylic medium. It brightens the colors. I may paint some clouds.

    Glowforge or Silhouette Cutter?

Making gears is so cool. I share your disgust with the cutesy junk associated with cutting machines. Ick. If I didn't design in and didn't make it, I don't see the point in "making" the stuff. It seems like a big time/money sink. The price of the paper really bugs me, and that they do it all in...

My Cameo shipped. I'm eager for it to arrive. I'll let you know how it goes.
