    Bridge building in balsa

Yes, I have noticed in photos that other localities have double yellow lines. I am used to seeing double white lines, as is the practice here in Western Australia, so I've gone with what I'm familiar with for my "freelanced" locale.

Here's a view from the other end. Hmm ... a problem of perspective. The broken lines on the road appear to get l-o-n-g-e-r as they get further away, even though they are in fact all the same length. An optical illusion created by the brain's need to perceive "distance". If it was only...

I have now completed and painted the barriers on my highway overpass. A lesson I learned after I had three quarters completed them is that you can bend the Plastruct styrene strip to get it curved before attempting to cement it to the curved bridge deck. By "over bending" it (without...

Paul, "SEARAILS" of Box 366, Valley Ford, CA 94972 who produce a range of model ships for model railroaders do a rather nice container ship, the C8. It is 30" long and 5.5" wide. Price $295. You can email them at: shadow@theguild.com They sent me a nice colour catalog in PDF...

    Intermodal ship

Paul, Here is another good on-line resource if you are interested in N-scale intermodal:- http://www.nvntrak.org/modules/cmt.php It has some images of an N-scale container ship and container crane both scratchbuilt by Bernard Kempinski for his "Chase Marine Terminal". Excellent work!

    Intermodal ship

Paul, Here is another idea. Use a "low relief" ship up against the backdrop. This photo I took of an HO layout here in Perth Western Australia (not mine) might give you some inspiration.

    Intermodal ship

Errol, "Intermodal" simply means that the freight (usually containers, but also road trailers) can be interchanged between different "modes" of transport, eg road, rail or ship. Containers are the most obvious example with international standards governing the location of attaching points...

    I need help

Guppyman, I was working full time in a hobby store when those units were released by Bachmann. I remember testing ALL the units in our shipment to see if ANY of them would get above a crawl. They were all S-L-O-W runners (and noisy). Shell out the extra dollars and buy a Kato. You...

Here's another shot of the barrier "web" created out of lengths of quarter-round. You wouldn't believe this bridge is still not officially open to traffic!! haha

    Bridge building in balsa

Okay, it's Boxing Day. Everyone is relaxing. Time to sneak off to the hobby room and advance the bridge project a little. Those of you who have followed this thread to learn from my mistakes - here's one. The 1mm styrene sheet I used for the "concrete" barrier looked too thin. I...

    Kato Bridge Bash

That looks really cool! Bet that gave you a sense of satisfaction when you sat back and looked at the finished result. The double bridge looks really good sitting across the future river bed. I'd like to see a photo of the completed scene. Gavin Miller in Perth, W. Australia

    Bridge building in balsa

Not much has been happening on my bridge project. This close to Christmas too much to do and so little time. I have decided to use solid "concrete" bridge edges rather than plastic railings. Just to get an idea what they will look like I have cut out one piece (from sheet styrene) and...
