    Real Estate for lease. Suggestions?

I know! I know!! Lease some space to the BN for an interchange! They actually DID enter Canada... IIRC, they had lines to Vancouver, BC., Winnipeg via trackage rights, and other shorter lines. It is a stretch, but you could augment that sea of Action Red with a bit of Cascade Green!:p...

    Real Estate for lease. Suggestions?

Shoot, in that much space, you could build a farm implement MANUFACTURER! How about a major loco rebuilder, a scrapyard, a major car shop, a major woodchip/sawmill facility?

    What's with all graffiti?

Ouch. But he does have a valid point. Graffiti will not make an appearance on my layout. I grew up 15 miles from one of the most infamous gang areas of Ohio--Youngstown. While I didn't have much to worry about in my hometown, I went to college in downtown Y-town. Talk about a scary commute...

    Wife: "That Ain't our layout..."

They're still clean, but BN took good care of their stuff. Eventually, they'll get some dirt on 'em. In the meantime, I have more pics in my Rail Images album to show off! The new switching area, and yard are mostly in--and crammed with traffic! The link below will get you there! Here's a...

    My Layout :-D

Great workon the layout! The SD45 from Kato is just one of the stellar locos they offer. Almost all of their locos look and perform as well or better than the SD45.:D

    My Z-Scale SD45

WOW! That is some sweet macro shooting! What kind of digicam have you got? Neat locos, too! That's the first I have seen closeups of AZL products. Do they use Marklin drives, or is this a new drive? I hear these beauts are brass, is that true? If so, that explains the pricetag.

Katos that like to decouple and derail

Sorry to double, but I used an SD90MAC to track-test my layout. If it doesn't derail anywhere, the track work's good enough. The SD90MACs have such a wide wheelbase for each truck, that they become accident-prone.

Katos that like to decouple and derail

Do you have a nasty kink in the problem area? My layout back in Minot, ND had that problem. The engines you have are compatable with the 9.75"r curves, but the makers didn't say they'd run well... At that tight radii, you need FLAWLESS trackwork, joints, and guage. Widening the curve will...

Katos that like to decouple and derail

OK, you need to give us a bit more info... What's the radius of the curve they have trouble with? Are you using MT coupers, if so, are they the ones best for tight curves? Are you using the stock rapidos or Kato knuckle dummy couplers? Have you checked the guage *with an NMRA standards...

    New WARR - With pics

WOW! I wish my layout progressed that fast!!!!! Great job, Luis! I like the bridge too! As for the *trailing point?* spur your loco was on, it is proto to have a loco parking spur; in Cheyenne, WY BNSF has the same arrangement in it's tiny yard, only theirs is a double spur.

    Wife: "That Ain't our layout..."

Thanks, Redracer! I think the secret is using the vB code, the stuff in the click boxes in the area above the reply screen. You have to use a tag for every image, url, etc. And not just one tag, a tag before and after each pic, url, etc. HTH!

    Wife: "That Ain't our layout..."

All woodland scenics. Trees, ballast, ground foam and lichen. As for the ballast, I took 2 bags of fine gray, a bag of brown, a few tablespoons of iron ore all mixed up. The trees are the 42-pine tree kit in the bag. I think some trees need more foliage glued on. Whaddaya think? Thanks for...

    Wife: "That Ain't our layout..."

Well, it is... Progress on the BN High Prairie Sub!! Here's an overall shot of the false backdrop: Here's what the top of it looks like: Here's a tight closeup, almost full size of the end detail: Here's a head-on shot broadside of the backdrop...

    Need 4x8 N scale plans!

Folks, my local club, Sherman Hill Model RR Club, in Cheyenne, WY, is about to get ideas to build a 4x8 for club use. Train shows, conventions, etc. We have a sturdy 4x8' skelton frame, legs, and such already salvaged from previous layouts. My buddy Mike and I will build it,a nd we want...

    N scale How-To's!!

I solder feeders to the track BEFORE laying, as I use WS foambed, and it melts too easily... Plus, it eliminates all that hassle!

    N scale How-To's!!

Arlaghan, I use the same method, but mine end up more messy. I remove about 4 ties, and "wing it", holding the tinned rail/wires together with the iron. It only takes but 3 sec. to get a good, solid, hot join. No cold soldering joints here! Of course, I use a 100W gun. More heat, less...

    N scale How-To's!!

Thanks, folks! The pics came out better than I'd have guessed. Handrails? Never tried it myself... I'm out of projects to re-rail... Unless I got crazy and redid an SD40. Grabs, MU cables/hoses, beacons, relocated horns, firecracker antenna... I have 3 stock Katos that could use such...
