    Starting Over

Jon, I've been around...but just lurking and seeing what others were up to because I haven't been making much progress on the now "old" layout. Progress was made today though, and I'll start a separate thread on that in the N scale forum. CSXEngineer, the sledge hammer already did it's...

    Starting Over

Unfortunately, the layout has to share the garage with my wife's car, so there's no sealing the door shut. There is also no window, but you can enter the garage through the door going into the house without opening the big door. Also, the garage is insulated and finished already, so I don't...

Here's a variation of the same plan which increases the main line distance. See below or go HERE for the full size version. What do y'all think??

    New N Scale BNSF Layout

For those of you who don't often venture over into the track planning forum... ;) Well, after all of the trouble I recently went through tearing down my old garage layout, designing a new track plan to come inside the house, building the new benchwork and starting on the subroadbed...I...

    Starting Over

Regarding the "old" benchwork, well, it won't go to waste. I'll dismantle it and use every piece of it and then some in building the new benchwork. I would much rather have the layout indoors, but the simple fact is I would rather have it in the garage and have what I want than have it in...

    Starting Over

Well, after all of the trouble I recently went through tearing down my old garage layout, designing a new track plan to come inside the house, building the new benchwork and starting on the subroadbed...I decided to take it back to the garage. For those of you who may remember the other...

    Prototype or Freelanced?

My railroad is (or will be) prototypically freelanced. :thumb: I would love to accurately model a specific area or line, but feel I don't have enough room or a big enough layout to do it justice. Selective compression and I don't get along too well. ;)

    Couldn't Leave Well Enough Alone...

I too would like more industry...and may be making some modifications in that regard. I just don't know how yet. The mainline and staging is pretty much set though because I've already got the foam subroadbed down for it and I don't want to tear it up and start over. ;)

Anyone Use "Foam In a Can" For Scenery??

Well....obviously I'm not the first person to think of this. :D I'll have to give it a shot and see how it comes out. Of course I'll provide pictures and feedback. :)

Anyone Use "Foam In a Can" For Scenery??

Great Stuff is what I have at home. I have already thought of a couple of places that I can use it for building up mountains. Seems like it would be considerably easier and faster than trying to cut foam to the shape of the area you're trying to fit it in. I might have to make an experimental...

    Couldn't Leave Well Enough Alone...

Regarding access.....I will have access, but at this point I have decided that accessing the hidden staging will require the use of a footstool. Not really a problem though. But, I intend to build portions of the backdrop as removable so that when necessary I can simply lift the backdrop and...

Anyone Use "Foam In a Can" For Scenery??

While laying WS foam risers for subroadbed the other day I was searching for different objects in my garage to use for weight to hold the risers down while the glue dries. One of the items I used was a new can of that insulation foam in a can that you spray into holes and what not and it...

    How Do You Cut Facia?

Thanks for the replies everyone. I figured a jig saw was the best way to go but thought maybe someone had a secret better way or something. Jig saw it is...and I'll probably use Shamu's method of cutting the facia and then making the contours fit it.

    How Do You Cut Facia?

I'm getting ready to install my facia board (1/8" masonite) on the front of the layout and I'm wondering what everyone here uses to cut it to match the contour of the elevations. Any help? I wouldn't think a utility knife would cut it and you can't follow the contours very well with a skilsaw...

Final Track Plan Wasn't So Final

Re: Cool! Awww shucks... Actually, there wasn't much to it. I developed the track plan and benchwork plan using Atlas Right Track. I then printed it out on a color printer, scanned the print out and saved it as a JPEG file. After that I just opened it up in Paint and used...

Final Track Plan Wasn't So Final

Regarding that tunnel, the double mainline adjacent to the track you're speaking of starts into a 2% grade shortly after clearing the turnouts where the staging yard lead connects to the mainline. It will be at a height of 2" by the time it works its way around to the backside. I may have to...

    Construction Has Begun!!!

I know what you mean on the space thing. I negotiated heavily for the front "formal" living room....which we use only as a sitting/computer room right now. Unfortunately, I can only use two walls....so an L shape was pretty much on only choice. I'll make it work though. ;)
