    A DCC question

I'm not real sure what you mean, but simply attaching a speaker to the circuit board of a non-sound DCC loco is not going to do anything. Without all the software and hardware in the decoder, there will be no sound signal to drive the speaker. Now, if you want to install a decoder with sound...

    axe the ATLAS's...

I'm using Atlas Custom Line Code 83 turn-outs, and at first, after I bought a bunch of them and started installing them on my layout, I had decided I didn't really like them. But with a few modifications and having run quite a few operating sessions, I'm finding they suit my purposes...

Facing Point Spurs and the Crew

Thank you Brakie! Those are exactly the answers I was looking for. I'm learning alot about the jobs of the train crews. I'm sure I'll have more questions. Hmmm... already have some.... Would every industry siding have a derail?

That conveyor is neat. Good job on the overall structure, thanks for letting us see it.

    Public baths in H0?

I would be real surprised to hear that a manufacturer made a kit like this. I don't think there would be enough interest to warrant it. Sounds like time for some scratchbuilding.

    Slow start up BLI M1a

I would have suggested a reset to factory defaults, but you already did that. Is there any way to swap out the decoder with one from another loco to see what happens. With the info you gave, maybe the decoder is defective.

    Slow start up BLI M1a

Loren's thought sounds logical. What is the history of the loco and decoder? Second hand? Fresh from the factory? Did you do any programming of the decoder? Do you have a list of the CVs and what they do?

Decoder for Proto 2000 GP 9

I hope you found the info you needed. As for lights, I have used Miniatronics "Yeloglo White LEDS" in a couple of P2K GP30s and I like them. They come with resistors in the package.

Trailing Point Spurs and the Crew

Hey DocW, on a little shortline like mine, where each train consists of approximately 8 cars picked up at the interchange with these cars being shuffled to the industries, would the crew take the time at the interchange to rearrange cars for optimal switching, or would they just go with what...

Facing Point Spurs and the Crew

Brakie, given the diagrams as above, would you mind giving a quick run-down of what each crew member would be doing in each diagram?

Anybody else notice Trucklover's gone missing?

Woohoo! Good to see you back! Glad you are okay, sorry about the troubles you are going through. Always look on the bright side though, things could be worse, and there are valuable lessons to be learned as you overcome adversity. Glad to see you are in good spirits.

Facing Point Spurs and the Crew

They were made with MicroSoft PhotoDraw using the drawing tools. The same could be done with the Paint Program which comes with windows. It is very simple. That is an interesting thought that never occurred to me. And something like this would be a necessity if the train was longer than...

When the LHS isn't local enough

Need small wire for loco lighting or decoders? The cable off an old mouse contains wires that are just right.

    Soldering help NEEDED NOW!!!!

Instead of actually cutting the ties out, you can cut out the little pieces of plastic between the ties and slide the ties over to leave an opening for soldering. Then when the solder is cool, you slide the ties back into place. Lots of ways to do this stuff. I would be remiss to not add some...

    Soldering help NEEDED NOW!!!!

Of course, you need to do both rails... Now, on to installing the track. Take the ties we cut out and cut them into pieces as shown. Basically we are cutting out the portions which sit under the rails. Rail nippers work well for this. Dry fit the track on the layout, and mark the holes...

    Soldering help NEEDED NOW!!!!

Next, heat up the wire with the soldering iron, let it get good and hot, then press down onto the rail where it has the solder on it from earlier. The solder on the wire will melt into the solder on the rail, then get the iron out of there, but continue holding the wire still for a couple...

    Soldering help NEEDED NOW!!!!

Next, you put some solder on the wire, and put some on the rail. Notice I am using a 100 watt soldering gun. With the rails removed, the extra heat isn't an issue, and actually it allows you to get in, heat up the area, and get out quicker than the little irons.
