So..... Does Anybody Want To Buy A Train?

I think you should explain to the "friend" that train sets are not returnable once opened and you are now out $140. And then see what happens.

Now I'm Gettin' Too Big For My Britches

I don't think 4% will be that much of a worry on a layout of this size. There would almost have to be a tail-chasing train for that to be a concern-- or a really puny locomotive... On the rerailer question, I use them generously in staging areas and anywhere there is hidden track. They've...

    Micro-Trains Quality?

The most recent runs of the Bachmann regular line steam locomotives-- like the Prairie one in the MTL set -- are improved over previous runs. I have an 0-6-0 and it runs far better than the Bachmann steamers I'm used to. (Spectrum excepted-- they were generally good from the start.)...

    Over/Under Starter Layout

Reminds me of one of my early layouts! Complete with Bachmann Pier Set... they didn't have those newfangled foam riser things back then!

    Good N Scale "Starter Sets?"

The Amazon listing notes that the set is offered by eHobbies... wow, they're still around. Didn't realize that; I thought their bubble burst some time ago. I think Atlas will sell a lot of Trainman sets and that would have been my first suggestion were they actually available now.

    Good N Scale "Starter Sets?"

That Bev-Bel might have been a Life-Like repaint, or if quite old, an Atlas repaint. Yeah, $100 is about the minimum these days unless you can catch a really good sale someplace. Walthers has been closing out the older Life-Like/Proto locos at a cheap price but they're almost gone now.

    ATSF stock cars color

Most of the roster of Chicago, Burlington and Quincy (Burlington Route) stock cars was painted either brown or red. However, there is a photo of CB&Q 53061 painted in green with white lettering as of April 1974 (after the BN merger) in the CB&Q Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment...

    Good N Scale "Starter Sets?"

The Little Joe set is really 'entry level'-- the wheelbase on the steam loco is small enough that dirt on the track will affect performance. And that will probably affect interest. I'm not a big fan of the Bachmann regular line sets. Although their non-Spectrum steam locos have been...

    ATSF stock cars color

Yes, there are no known ATSF stock cars in green. They should all be brown, or perhaps "mineral red" is the more correct name for the color. No one is quite sure where the model Santa Fe stock cars in green started-- some say it was Lionel who did this first-- but many other manufacturers...

Coal hopper for transition era ?

Many of the Bowser schemes are correct for the GLa, but I don't believe all of them are. I personally think that they're more toward the beginning of the transition era than the end of it, but it would certainly work. The three bay 70 ton hopper-- DUH!-- I'd forgotten about the...

Coal hopper for transition era ?

I believe that the prototype for the Atlas 90 ton hopper (and the similar Micro-Trains 100 ton hopper) was built starting in the 1960's. Rob's Pennsy Page has the prototype as being the PRR's H39 class hopper, for example. I guess the 1960's would be a bit late for Transition Era. I'd...

    Atlas Parts Needed

These locos have been out of production for years, so it won't be easy to locate parts. You might consider looking around for another entire loco (cheaply) to use as a parts donor.

Good Train Meet This weekend Allentown Pa

I would expect that you do agree with yourself! By the way, what model railroading cause (train club, historical society) does the admission charge support? Other than "Valley Rail Promotions" that is. That's part of my definition of "a good show"... it supports organizations who do a lot...

Good Train Meet This weekend Allentown Pa

If the number of attendees equals the number of posts about this show that have been blasted all over the 'net, the mall's capacity controls may kick in.
