I just got back into N guage after a about a 6-7 year layoff. I thought Atlas was made by Kato. If not now , weren't they at one time? If and when did this change?

Could it be possible that some of these engines need quartered? i know from building H.O. engines that being a little out of alignment can cause binding of the drivers. severe binding and the engine won't run, very slight binding and it runs in a jerking manner.
