    Closing web site

Wow, $52.00? You are with the wrong ISP there David. My company website is only $28.00 per month and I get 50GB of space for that.

    Introduction

Looks good so far Kevin. I too am doing a late 1800s layout. My thread is here: http://www.the-gauge.com/showthread.php?t=9305 I have found that for structures, DPM is great for brick buildings. While RSlaser Kits make awesome wooden structures as well as detail parts. I have about 5 of...

    Credit Valley Railway progress report

Thanks Doc and Andrew. I don't have much time these days. By the time I get everything done for my company, it is usually after 9PM. The layout is at a point where I need to cut and drill. Using power tools in an apartment at night is not a good thing. So I spend the time building the...

    Credit Valley Railway progress report

Here is a shot of life in the 1880's. Bert has backed the wagon up and Zeke is unloading it. Someone is finally going to reopen the Cooperage. Meanwhile Mrs. Higgins and Mrs. Rosetter are gossiping in front of the General Store and Uncle Joe is sleeping by the Livery while Buttercup tries...

Brian, he found it on the internet. I think Ralph is just being over catious. The site is an NMRA site and their philosophy is to share information for the good of the hobby.

    Computer Design Software

Not that scary Gumshoe, just reality. The Atlas "Right Track" software is free and was updated last year. It does all the basic stuff. XtrkCAD is now free as the fellow was not selling much and is now not updating it. The others don't sell well enough to warrant updates. Where...

what are the better brands of rolling stock?

It depends on your scale and era... I am in N scale and 1880-1900s. Bachmann have some old time cars, but most need severe help to get away from their toylike look. MDC, now Athearn, have a line of 36' Box, stock and reefers, but don't have flat or gondola that size. Looks like scratching...

    New Layout Progress

Hot glue.... I guess that would be easier than turning the layout on its side.... :D

Thanks for the clarification, Agatheron. Out of interest, how much does it cost?

New to N scale and First Major Layout questions

If the matte medium makes the cloth rigid, it will work. Never used it before, don't know if you can add paint to it?

    Computer Design Software

I use the Atlas Right Track v7.0, it is free and easy to use. I had a look at XtrackCAD, but could not figure it out. It is not very intuative.

New to N scale and First Major Layout questions

Matt, I would echo TrainNut's advice. 1. Flex track can be used for evrything except turnouts of course. 2. To glue things together, I am in Canada so I use LePage's White Glue (same as Elmer's). 3. As to landscaping, I use "used dryer sheets" and diluted white glue (50% glue - 50%...

    Old west prarie layout engine

I concur with Andrew. Harold's site is amazing, Harold however is into OO scale. I am doing an N scale "Old East" railway, North East actually. I have 4 of the little Bachmann 4-4-0 units, they are not bad, they can pull about 3-4 Overtons, so long as they are on the level, don't ask them...

Thinking About Jumping To N Gauge

For my N scale empire, I use a minimum radius of 11", however, at the club, the newer (longer) equipment looks better on 19" minimum radius. HO suggested minimum is 18". If I were starting over, I would take an HO track plan and copy it directly to N scale. That way, the 18" radius curves...

    laying ballist

We are in the process of redoing the ballast on the club's modular N Scale layout (8'x16'). After 4.5 years of bouncing in the back of a pickup truck to 5-6 shows a year, things tend to fall out. We treat it as a 2 man, 2 phase job.... Phase One: One fellow pours the ballast using a...

    Fascia suggestions?

I use masonite painted a deep green, and then burlap, the type used around trees in a nursery. I have photos on the website. Also probably in the Credit Valley thread here on The Gauge.

Bachmann & Model Power- Same Comapny?

In a way I can see paying for the use of the UP logo. What I CANNOT see is paying for the use of logos long since discontinued. If UP is that strapped for cash, maybe they should look at restructuring.
