Hi,
I'm a retired computer scientist who started glueing plastic and cardboard models in my youth .....and came back to it recently.
My main focus is on REAL space exploration, from early rockets to upcoming spaceships and satellites. The other is on jets of German Luftwaffe starting in the 1950s (from F-86 Sabre to Eurofighter and soon F-35).
Last year I built both versions of Saturn V (see photo attached). The top model is REVELL's plastic model, (1:144) the bottom model is cardboard from some polish constructor (Sklej Model 1:150).
Currently I'm trying to build the Bentley 4,5l Blower from Heller (got it as a gift some years ago) and the Eurofighter Typhoon in cardboard fom IPMS. I'm a slow builder, so presentation of the finished models might last until end of the year!
I hope to see a lot of build reports on these models in the forum just to learn and avoid bad models and/or materials.
Regards
Stephan

Please post some photos of your Bentley and Eurofighter, well anything really...

We love all sorts on here.

As to being a slow builder, It really doesn't matter (unless its needed for a model club display) its what makes you happy.

Welcome aboard!!

We do these things not because they are easy, but because they are hard.... heard that somewhere...
I'm being a very slow builder at the moment...

Anywho, Welcome to Zealot, and enjoy your stay.

Hello and welcome you to Zealot!

You have come to the right place for all things paper/cardstock, and to build and hone your skills. The members here are very helpful.

If you have any questions, comments, concerns, need help or advice. Please feel free to ask and we will do what we can to help you (or at least point you in the right direction).

When you start a new project, please post a build thread. Build threads are a great way of show off your work and skills. Not only that, but if you run into an issue with a model you can highlight the area that you are having problems with and we can offer you some suggestions on how to deal with them.

Once again, welcome aboard. I hope that you enjoy yourself here. I look forward to seeing your work.

Helo and welcome to the forum! The comparison pic looks awesome. Take care and have fun and enjoy! :)

Hi Chuffy,
I understand your intend but I still refrain from starting a build thread as I'm afraid this will impose another kind of threat to me: I'm taking so much time to continue a build so that such a documenting thread will be closed due to less traffic. So I'd feel too much compulsion if I have a build thread working.
After 3 weeks the Bentley is just coloured (Airbrush) and the Eurofighter hasn't completed the fuselage....and I'm on it since February ....and the 4th attempt is underway. Hope this is the "version" I can finish ....at some time, I think in autumn.
Thanks for the encouragements!

Looking forward to seeing some more of your work! You'll find this site full of very supportive and informative members. We all have a tendency to watch other people's work with fascination, and give advice and support where it's needed. We also enjoy sharing some of our own work warts and all (emphasis on warts sometimes).

Please don't feel intimidated about the time it takes to build a model. On one model it took me over a year to build with all the details added to it and due to builder's block (a close relative to writer's block:hammerhead:).

One other nice perk is the resources section. There's hundreds of treasures in there just waiting to be built. Some no longer available from their original site or even the wayback machine. Also, some of the designers of these beauties stop by from time to time to give advice or share their own original work.

Welcome to Zealot LCarf! :) :BRAVO:

Meanwhile I trashed the Bentley as it was a real horror to fix a lot of parts which didn't match to the model. There is a video in YT showing the assembly but the steps where I encountered severe trouble are obviously skipped. (I remember other videos having the same "technique" used.... "When it gets dirty, don't show your mistakes and circumventions...").
I just visited the IPMS Expo in Houten/NL and bought a nice model REVELL Porsche Boxster..... I will post some pictures when there is something meaningful to show.
So I interrupted the IPMS Paper Eurofighter.... which is also a mess: I bought it asking for a "Beginner Model" but....believe me....it is NOT, should be handed over to MASTERs only....

I am glad to see you back. I am sorry that you had problems with the Bentley. I too have ran into similar issues with various model templates.
As for the REVELL Porsche Boxster, if I may suggest, post a build thread. Everyone here, loves to see a good build thread.

We do not close posts because they may take a long time. Some of the most beautiful models on this forum took years to accomplish, and having them documented, with pictures (which is why we required you upload pictures to the forum, they remain yours, but using a photo service has destroyed too many thread). So feel build to start as many build threads as you need too, and upload pictures, I use XNView MP as that is great for reducing pictures without destroying them, and removes all metadata, which can be larger than the picture.

You Saturn rockets are quite impressive and you have made a beautiful displace piece.

Welcome to Zealotmodels! We are happy you have found us. Feel free to interact, post helpful tips. We all help each other out here. There are people who joined this forum barely able to make models, and are now designing the best of the best. Some do it free hand, some use CAD, whatever floats your boat.

My career (if I don't count the Bureau of prisons, hated that job) was as a Master Machinist, also programming CNC machines, tool and fixture design. My first language was APL, if that doesn't date me!

I'm very happy you posted an Introduction, and gave us a chance to welcome you to the forum.

Welcome to Zealotmodels!! :)

On this site we encourage people to show their model building warts and all so when you run into a problem there's usually someone on this forum that can help. As to trashing models, usually I try not to trash any models. I try to find solutions then if it's not up to the desired standard I get it fully assembled then give it away to someone that might appreciate it. You'll be surprised on how the model is received even when you think it's trash someone else will treasure it, and maybe improve upon it!:)

I've taken models that haven't come out quite the way I planed, and made wrecks, or kit bashed them into something else. I always found a friend who was shocked when I gave them such a piece, not knowing the process of aggravation that brought into being, only seeing the end result of a rusted out hulk on a beach diorama, or a car, with pieces that imitated a car that seen better days. People love stuff like that. It's not a shiny new vehicle or an object, but something you cannot purchase. A distressed item that seems to have a hidden secret. It brings imagination for the final owner.

I made a diorama of 3 models, all of the S.A.S. in the desert, and I botched up a Bren Gun Universal carrier made by Tamiya. I used pins to melt bullet holes into, real rust suspended into a flat pain to create distressed areas. That diorama was on display at a model shop for 3 years. I finally took it back when the owner decided he was moving out of state.

Connecticut is a beautiful place to live, but you had better have purchased your home a long time ago. Rentals are costing more than our mortgage, and food and everything else has gone through the roof. I still do my own brake jobs, and most of the automotive repairs. I never own new cars,, that's just plain silly in my case.

A little off track, but an insight into how many members of this forum behave. I have given virtually every model I have ever made, and the friends of mine never know the build history, or personal dissatisfaction I had of the model, they just show me the model sitting on a shelf, sometimes 20 years later, with a big smile. People appreciate hand made stuff. ;)
