Good evening, fellow creatures of the night!

This year I made some filled bat jars for my colleagues at work. Again, a strictly limited edition of 16, passed on to whoever is crossing my path that day (till supply lasts).

The main ingredients for his little masterpiece of evil are 16 jars (from sausages, jam or grave lamps). They are roughly painted with white acrylic paint to give them a distressed and used look. You can spare the paint if the jars already have that look after you have dug them out of the soil, of course.

Fill them with candy or leftover body parts - whatever you can find that fits.

Paint some red stains on the lids with blood (or red nail polish).

Close the jars and put them into a dark and cold cellar for a few days. After a while you will see that the blood attracts several spiders (Aranea Sanguinebriosa Festicula / The Little Festive, Blood-Drunken Spider). Wait till on each lid sits one spider. Make sure that they don't escape and apply a glue dot in the middle of the lid. Don't worry, the spiders will not be harmed because they have no soul and are made of plastic.

See how the spiders drink the blood with joy? That is the effect we are striving for.

Now we need someone who will transport the jars to their new owners. Usually I would use carrier pigeons, however, this time I will use carrier bats. Why? Because if we had used pigeons, the thread would have had a different title.

The bats are cursed enchanted creatures which are cut from a large piece of heavy cardboard. Their wings are decorated with a silver marker. Their eyes were made of red gem stones.

After the magic spell was spoken, the bats turned into living bats. They have a nasty tendency to be attracted by gothic windows.

This is the spell (if you know a better one, please post it):

Incantatio Chiroptera Papyracea Vivificans

Per cartonem levem et alas fictas,
Exsurgite, Chiroptera! Frustra!
Non iam fixa, non iam mutum,
Sed sanguinem sitientes, in auras!
Flickermus, Flattermus, Vampyrus Volans!
Vita, motus, sensus adest!
Ex chartis volate, ad noctem properate!

*******

Incantation for the Vivification (Bringing to Life) of Paper Bats

Through light cardboard and false wings,
Arise, Bats! In Vain (or For Naught)!
No longer fixed (stiff), no longer silent,
But thirsting for blood, into the skies!
Flicker-mouse, Flutter-mouse, Flying Vampire!
Life, movement, sensation are present!
Fly from the papers, hasten to the night!

And take care of all loose things in your house; those bats are worse than a dozen cats.

It took me three days to catch them all. Attach them to the jars with glue dots. Don't worry, they are still made of cardboard.

With the bats attached the jars are sent out into the night to find a new crypt.

And don't be afraid, this is just a trick. With treats. Have fun! :)
